Wall Insulation
- Can you insulate existing walls?
Yes, we have been successfully insulating existing walls since 1985
- How do you insulate external double brick wall or a brick veneer wall?
We unfasten sections of the roof or move tiles and insert a flat hose to the bottom of the cavity. There is a normally a gap of approximately 50-75mm between the timbers and the brickwork, allowing us good access. The pump mounted in our truck is activated and as the cavity fills with Granulated Rockwool, the hose is slowly lifted up from the bottom. We repeat this process all along the wall.
- How do you insulate clad homes, or internal walls?
We drill a small hole in the plasterboard between the studs, and pump the rockwool in. Afterwards, we organize a gyprock fixer to flush the hole, or you can do the repair work yourself.
- What products can be used for existing walls?
Water repellent rockwool is the only product tested and licensed by the CSIRO and Building Code of Australia to insulate existing walls in Australia.
- I have heard the cavity is necessary for preventing moisture coming into the walls. Will that be a problem if I insulate the walls?
Rockwool is a water-repellent product (hydro-phobic), which prevents moisture transferring through the material from the external wall

Blow-in
- How effective is pumped in Rockwool is a cavity wall?
There will be a summer and winter benefit of 3-6 degrees in most homes by insulating the walls correctly. This will help reduce energy bills and make the home much more comfortable. It also helps reduce noise penetration
- When is it best to use blow in ceiling insulation?
Blow-in ceiling insulation is best for roofs with difficult access, such as when the roof is raked, flat or very low. It is also very good for homes with ducting, as it means the installers can get to all the tight/hidden nooks or crannies successfully.
- Are there different types of blow-in ceiling insulation?
Yes, there is a choice of cellulose (re-cycled paper) or Rockwool (melted rock). We will offer you a choice to suit your home.
- How do you pump insulation in to a ceiling space?
We use a specially designed truck mounted pump that allows us to efficiently pump insulation into all parts of the ceiling. If it is very low, we will do the work from outside, by lifting tiles or iron.

Removal
- Do you recommend cleaning the ceiling out before installing new insulation?
If your ceiling has old and/or deteriorated insulation, we recommend cleaning prior to installing new batts, as this will give a better thermal result. Alternatively, we will blow insulation over the existing material, filling in all the gaps, etc
- How do you clean out ceilings?
We use a truck mounted vacuum machine to remove loose insulation and dust. We will remove batts first (if there are batts present originally, and then we vacuum the ceiling). Loose insulation is just vacuumed up with our hose, directly to our truck. The truck will operate successfully between 10-50 metres from the house. We then take the old insulation, dirt and dust away and dump it
- What materials can you suck out with your machine?
We can remove old cellulose, rockwool, dirt and dust, seaweed, sea grass, sawdust, sheepswool, and old styrene. We remove batts by hand first, then
vacuum the ceiling to get rid of the remaining loose dirt and rubbish

Batts
- What happens if I lay batts on top of the old batts or loose insulation?
Batts rely on neat fitting with no gaps, and need to be held in snugly between the joists to achieve their proper R-Rating. It is very hard to do that if the batt does not fit neatly down on the ceiling, and you may not achieve the stated R-Rating.
- Does it matter if there are some gaps left when fitting batts?
It is very important to ensure no gaps are present. Even if only 5% of an area of wall or ceiling is left un-insulated, then up to 50% of the potential benefits may be lost. Blow-in insulation may be a better option if the roof is too difficult to correctly insulate.
- Do you have to take the whole roof off to put insulation in?
In most situations, we will remove a small section of the iron or tiles and insulate the roof from that spot. If it is a flat roof, we may need to take more roofing off, depending upon the product selected. Our qualified personnel ensure that the roof is correctly re-fitted before we leave the job. Alternatively, we come in through the manhole inside if that is practical.
- How long will it take to insulate my home?
A standard 3 Bedroom home should take approximately half a day to insulate the ceilings. Larger homes or homes with flat roofs will take longer. Removal and replacement is 1-2 days, while existing walls can normally be insulated within the day
Only if we need to access the ceiling through a manhole. In many situations, we will remove sections of the roof to gain access.
